Carjacking & Aggravated Assault on an Officer Charges Issued in Englewood Cliffs
An incident in Englewood Cliffs around 3 pm yesterday leads to the arrest of a twenty-three (23) year old Connecticut resident on a slue of charges. It is alleged that the Defendant laid down in the middle of a street in Englewood Cliffs until a women driving a Mercedes stopped to check on the welfare of the Defendant. Once the women stopped, the Defendant sprung up and entered the vehicle, demanding that the women exit. Fortunately, the women was able to get her two children, one eleven (11) and one thirteen (13) out of the vehicle before the Defendant fled the scene in her car.
In the Defendant’s attempt to flee the scene it is alleged that he rammed several Englewood Cliffs police offficers vehicle, sending at least one of the officer’s to the Hackensack Memorial Hospital. It finally appeared that the officer’s were able to surround the Defendant, however, he somehow managed to elude capture and wiggly his way into an unattended police cruiser. He then fled the scene in the car cop, taking the officers on a low speed chase throughout Bergen County, including towns like Bergenfield, Dumont, New Milford and River Edge. The Defendant was finally apprehended once he crashed into a Jeep dealership on Route 4 in Paramus but not before he bite several officers who were attempting to place him under arrest.
The Defendant was arrested and charged with a slue of charges, including multiple counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, carjacking, eluding, resisting arrest and obstruction. He currently remains in the Bergen County Jail on a $1,000,000 bail.
