A car burglary attempts to break into the wrong vehicle in Fair Lawn, New Jersey and in turn pays the price. Apparently the Defendant, a forty-one (41) year old male, was in the middle of rummaging through a vehicle that he had just broken into when the victim’s neighbor happened to be pulling in. The neighbor realizing what was going on, intervened and struggle unused. Unfortunately for the Defendant, the neighbor is trained in mixed martial arts and he was able to actually subdue the Defendant.  When the police arrived on scene the Defendant was passed on the ground.

He was taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center for evaluation. Once he was medically cleared, he was taken to the Bergen County Jail. The Defendant was formally charged with robbery in the second degree, burglary in the third degree and theft of moveable property in the third degree. Bail was set at $20,000 and he currently remains in the Bergen County Jail. The robbery charge is the most significant charge levied against the Defendant. If convicted, the Defendant could be facing up too ten (10) years in a New Jersey State Prison and a fine up too $150,000. In addition, robbery falls under the No Early Release Act (NERA) which in essence requires the Defendant to serve at least 85% of his sentence before he can become eligible for parole.
