Eluding Charges issued in Bergen County NJ
According to the reports released thus far, the East Rutherford Police Department has arrested and charged three individuals with various offenses following a low speed police chase through several Bergen County municipalities earlier this week. It appears that the driver, a twenty-one (21) year old male from North Bergen, took off once an East Rutherford Police Officer attempted to pull him over. Apparently the officer attempted to pull over the Defendant once his licenses plate scanner came back with a positive hit for a stolen vehicle. The Defendant is alleged to have taken officers on a what they claim was a low speed chase through East Rutherford and Rutherford before ditching the vehicle and fleeing on foot in Lyndhurst. The Defendant and his two passengers, both females, weren’t able to get very far before officers apprehended them. According to the officers involved in the “chase” it was evident that the Defendant’s were clearly just looking for a spot to ditch the vehicle and flee on foot.
The driver was taken to the Bergen County Jail and charged with eluding and receiving stolen property (vehicle). He remains in the Bergen County Jail and bail was set at $27,500. The two female passengers were each charged with theft by unlawful conveyance and resisting arrest. They as well remain in the Bergen County Jail on a $5,000 bail.
